Rotary club Chandigarh uptown in association with SEWA Punjab set up an adult literacy Centre in Amb Sahib colony, SAS Nagar for providing basic education to the underprivileged women living in that area. The main objective of the program is to build basic reading, writing and numeracy skills among the women to enable them to participate confidently in household management, work related decisions, and community processes. The centre was inaugurated by AG Rotarian Amarjit Singh, who explained the importance of reading and writing through an interesting story. Books and stationery were provided to the women free of cost. They were motivated to make the best use of the opportunity and learn the basics of reading, writing, and maths. Three Rotaractors from Amity University also attended the inauguration. Refreshments were served to all present on the occasion.
